Our History
Convened in 2011 by regional leaders at Skyward and Agenda 360, the Greater Cincinnati Service Learning Network includes representatives from post secondary institutions, K—12 school districts, nonprofit organizations, and foundations. Each represented partner identified service learning as a powerful strategy they used to more effectively engage students in powerful academic, social and emotional, and civic experiences. The GCSLN is made up of an executive committee, and multiple sub-committees. Each has contributed to the advancement of service learning practice through advocacy and special events or workshops. The first two years were spent clarifying the group’s vision, mission and yearly goals; exploring how to gather more and better service learning examples and how to increase the number of schools in the region utilizing this powerful pedagogy.
The GCSLN has utilized varied strategies to enlighten, invite, and promote the use of service learning to empower and educate our youth. Workshops and symposiums highlight powerful examples of service learning projects that encourage greater use of this instructional method and broader dissemination of research supporting best practices.
